The National Film Registry of the Library of Congress stemmed from the National Film Preservation Act of 1988. Since then, 25 films a year have been added to this registry as the board “works to ensure the survival, conservation, and increased public availability of America’s film heritage.” Coming at the tail end of 2015, 25 more films have been added, and this round includesTop Gun,The Shawshank Redemption, andGhostbusters. The films selected to join the registry are decided upon by the Librarian of Congress after conferring with the National Film Preservation Board and the Library staff, in addition to reviewing public nominations submitted tothe board’s website....
