Most of the strong characters or the captains of pirate crews inOne Pieceuse devil fruit, exhibiting incredible strength and a strong will to sustain on the Grand Line.
While devil fruits are a common aspect of the series that shapes the power structure, plenty of other prominent personalities do not employ devil fruits and solely rely on their sheer muscle. Most often, non-devil fruit users rely onother mechanisms like Haki, snipers, or swords. Despite their negligence toward striking powers, some non-devil fruit users are on par with most devil fruit users and establish themselves as a principal figure of the series.
First Appearance: One Piece Episode 1 - “I’m Luffy! The Man Who Will Become the Pirate King!”
Koby is among the first few characters who become friends with Luffy. Though the initial look at Koby’s weak physique left users with the thought that Koby is just a character that will be lost in the timeline, Koby trained under Vice-Admiral Monkey D. Garp and quickly elevated hisrank in the Marines.Currently, serving as the Marine Captain, Cross Guild has assigned Koby a 5-star bounty.
During his early days of training, Garp realized the true potential of Koby to become a fine Marine.Koby’s outlandish feat involves the release of a top-tier Haki that annihilates the arm of a gigantic stone statue of Avalo Pizarro, one of the Ten Titanic Captains of the Blackbeard Pirates.
First Appearance: One Piece Episode 430 - “A Warlord in Prison! Jinbe the Knight of the Sea”
As of now, Jinbe is the last member to join the Straw Hats pirates' crew and now serves as the helmsman. Prior to joining, Jinbe served asone of the seven Warlords of the Seaand was a member of the Big Mom Pirates.Perhaps Jinbe is the most experienced and strategic member of Straw Hats. His excellent tactical moves involve joining Big Mom to prevent her attacks and raids on Fishman Island.
His expertise in Fishman Karate and Fishman Jujutsu allows him to manipulate water around him, making him a potent fighting figure. Using these skills, Jinbe strikes enemies with water-based attacks and projectiles. To demonstrate his strength, Jinbe effortlessly defeated Who of the Droplets, one of the Tobiroppo of the Beasts Pirates.
First Appearance: One Piece Episode 20 - “The Famous Cook! Sanji of the Floating Restaurant”
Sanji, popularly known as Black Leg Sanji, is one of the princes of the Germa Kingdom who joined Straw Hats during the Baratie Arc. Alongside Luffy and Zoro, Sanji is a member of the Monster Trio who aspires to find All Blue. After the time skip, Sanji’spowers have increased extraordinarily, allowing him to coat his legs with Armament Haki and deal lethal blows. One of the greatest powers of Sanji is Diable Jambe.
Now that Sanji has awakened his Germa powers, he is unfathomable for most of the weak attacks, preventing any unnecessary injuries. These power-ups and Germa modifications enabled Sanji to deliver Ifrit Jambe: Boeuf Burst, an enhancement of Diable Jambe, which was powerful enough to overwhelm Queen, an All-Star of the Beasts Pirates.
Another Straw Hats pirate and thefirst crew member to join Luffy, Roronoa Zoro, is the swordsman who is striving to become the greatest swordsman.There once was a time when Zoro was more famous than Luffy for his feats as a bounty hunter, recognized as The Pirate Hunter Zoro. During the time skip, Roronoa trained under the current strongest swordsman, Mihawk Hawkeye, and during this period he mastered his control over Armament and Observation Haki.Though not explicitly showcased, Zoro displayed a small amount of Color of the Supreme King.
Zoro is the descendant of the legendary Ryuma, and his incredible strength allows him to wield Enma. Though he can’t completely control his Blade as for now, Enma’s and Zoro’s true potential was displayed during his fierce clash with King the Wildfire, a Beasts' pirate with over 1.3 Billion Berry bounty.During this clash, Zoro dealt various attacks, but his final blow, King of Hell: Three Dragon Style – 103 Mercies: Dragon Damnation, pierced through the King’s defense, leading to King’s defeat.
6Kouzuki Oden
First Appearance: One Piece Episode 910 - “A Legendary Samurai - The Man Who Roger Admired!”
TheOne Piecefanbase witnessed Kouzuki Oden only for a brief period in flashbacks, during which Oden joined Whitebeard, helped Gol D. Roger to find theOne Piecetreasure, and showcased his outlandish sword skills.To think of it, Whitebeard, unlike other pirates, gathered a family and each crew member was his son, including Ace and Marco. But, when Oden joined the crew, Whitebeard referred to Oden as his brother. This indicates the potency of Oden.
Apart from his outstanding mastery over Haki, Oden’s immense physical strength enabled him to wield two of the 21 Great-Grade swords inOne Piece; Enma and Ame no Habikiri.It was Oden who furnished Enma’s Paradise Totsuka that gave Kaido a permanent scar on his body. At that time, Oden was the only known character to permanently scar Kaido.
5Mihawk Hawkeye
First Appearance: One Piece Episode 23 - “Protect Baratie! The Great Pirate: Zeff the Red Leg”
Dracule Mihawk assumes the title the Strongest Swordsman in the World and wields Yoru, one of the 12 Supreme Grade swords. ThoughOne Pieceviewers haven’t had any chance to see Mihawk in any serious fight other than his clash with Zoro in Baratie Arc, Mihawk’s rank as one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea and his feat of sinking the entire 50-Ship fleet signifies his might. In an event inOne Piece: Stampede, Mihawk single effortlessly cleared off the meteor summoned by the Admiral Fujitora.
Though Mihawk could be consideredan antagonist due to his role in siding with the World Governmentduring the Marineford War, Mihawk trained Zoro on Kuraigana Island. While the fanbase don’t know the actual reason behind training Zoro, fan theories state that Mihawk is probing for a fierce competition, like Shanks.
4Silvers Rayleigh
First Appearance: One Piece Episode 8 - “Who Will Win? Showdown Between the True Powers of the Devil Fruit!”
Popularly known as the Dark King, Silvers Rayleigh, is one of the most famous characters inOne Piece. The first crewmate of Gol D. Roger, Silvers served as the Right-Hand Man of the Roger Pirates. Afterthe Marineford War, Rayleigh trained Luffy for two years and nurtured him to release and control Haki.
Despite not being in his prime anymore, Rayleigh is still capable of holding a fight against Fleet Admirals like Kizaru.With his immaculate mastery of the Observation, Armament, and Conqueror’s Haki, Rayleigh stopped Marco’s Phoenix with his very finger and knocked several marines with a mere gaze.
First Appearance: One Piece Episode 1 - “Luffy’s Past! The Red-Haired Shanks Appears”
Right from the beginning, all theOne Piecefans are awaiting Shanks to entertain them by engaging in a fierce battle. Even after a thousand episodes, Shanks shared only a small amount of screen time, and yet, took everyone’s heart ablaze. Shanks remains one of the most mysterious characters, whose real motives are yet to be revealed. It is still perplexing that whether Luffy accidentally devoured Gomu Gomu no Mi devil fruit or Shanks played an enigmatic role.
Nonetheless, ruling the sea like a king, Shanks isone of the Four Emperors of the Sea. At the end of the Wano Arc, Shanks displayed an impressive Conqueror’s Haki which forced even Admiral Ryokugyu to step back.Perhaps Shanks is the only character that is capable of getting the One Piece, but haven’t made a move yet.
2Monkey D. Garp
First Appearance: One Piece Episode 68 - “Try Hard, Koby! Diary of Koby-Meppo’s Marine Struggles”
In the animeverse, there is always something different about the old characters. They are incredibly strong. For instance, inBleach, Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto was the Head Commander, and inNaruto, Hiruzen Sarutobi was the Hokage.Similarly, the Vive-Admiral of the Navy, Monkey D. Garp, inOne Pieceis the strongest elderly character.
An extremely powerful personality with perfect control over Haki’s release, Garp fought alongside Gol D. Roger to defeat the Rocks Pirates.His extraordinary feats have earned him the moniker of “The Hero of the Marines”. Even in his 70s, Garp was able to outpace and outmatch Aokiji, captain of the Tenth Ship of the Blackbeard Pirates. Using his Observation Haki, Garp even sensed invisible adversaries like Shiryu. If it wasn’t for saving Koby, Garp would’ve hardly been injured by Shiryu’s blade.
1Gol D. Roger
Though there are several characters, like Ben Beckmann or Yassop, who are strong enough, the only aspect that them out from this list is their fight scenes. In a similar way,Pirate King Gol D. Roger is too eluded from most of the fight scenes, but the small frames display Roger’s mighty powers.
During the flashbacks of Oden, Roger severely wounds and defeats Kouzuki Oden with his single blow,Divine Departure. Also, Gol D. Roger’s Haki was proficient and on par to go one-on-one against Whitebeard, the Strongest Man Alive, who was a devil fruit user.During the God Valley Incident, Rogers fought alongside Garp to defeat the monsterous powers of Rocks D. Xebec’s crew.
