St. Patrick’s Day is a day that’s supposed to be full of luck (or drinking, depending on how you see this holiday), where you could find a pot of gold at the end of a long rainbow. The Irish holiday also reminds us tocelebrate the many amazing films and actors that have come from the great country.

The luck of the Irish is supposed to bring us all the charms and luck that we can ever imagine; however, that’s not always the case, as there are some instances where being unlucky can have a spellbinding effect on us all. Thankfully, those of us who suffer from the curse of bad luck doesn’t have to do it alone. These seven movies will make us feel a bit better that we don’t have the luck that has to befall these film’s protagonists.

The Perfect Man(2005)

In this very-PG romcom,Hillary Duffstars as a daughter to a mother who has to move every single time a relationship goes bad.

Maybe this would have been a great movie for singles on Valentine’s Day since it’s pretty much relatable to most couples, but it lands on this list because of the sheer unluckiness of the mom who just couldn’t land a good boyfriend and the daughters who couldn’t catch a break staying in just one location.

The Hunt(2020)

This political comedy had the unlucky fortunes of having a release date being pushed back twice; once for the pandemic, and the other for the political turmoil that surrounded the film’s production. Once it was released, you could see that the clear unlucky participants ofThe Hunthad to fight their way to freedom.

It all symbolizes that politics in this day-and-age contains no luck whatsoever, and that makes for a highly entertaining watch if you love political satire.

National Lampoon’s Vacation(1983)

The Griswolds have to be the most snake-bitten family in the film.Chevy Chasetried his best to give his family the best vacation, but they always ran into problems along the way. Even though they made it to Walley World, the sheer bad luck the Griswolds encountered during their cross-country trip is what earned them a place on this list.

Oh, and don’t get us started on the holidays, where this family is truly cursed with the dark side of the luck of the Irish.

Holes(2003)

Based on a 1998 novel, Holes was based on the Yelnats, a family that could rival the Griswolds in the “unlucky family” department. Their bad fortune, however, was based on a fortune-teller, and that luck was extended to their son, who had to spend 18 months at Camp Green Lake digging holes.

How much bad luck can one family receive? In the case of the Yelnats, their bad luck was limitless.

Little Giants(1994)

This cute family sports film showed that the little guys can overcome any obstacle put in their way, but one can’t overlook the unlucky status of the team that lost.

The Pee-Wee Cowboys were supposed to run roughshod over the “Little Giants;” but the leprechaun just wasn’t on the Cowboys side in this movie, falling to a less-talented team in the most hilarious, curse-inducing ways.

Die Hard(1988)

John McClaine is the unluckiest man on Earth. All he wanted to do was spend Christmas with his estranged wife in L.A.; however, he found himself having to fight off terrorists to try to save his wife, barefooted.Die Hardhas to beBruce Willis’best performance.

How many people can say that they, unwittingly, found themselves in office shootouts with terrorists who wanted to steal $640 million to they could be “sitting on a beach, earning 20 percent?” Only McClaine can make that claim.

Scream(1996-2022)

Say the name “Sidney Prescott,” and you have the unluckiest teenager in horror film history. She wasn’t asked to bea legend facing the numerous Ghostface killerswho tried to shred her from limb to limb. She moved everywhere, but her bad luck that stemmed from her time in Woodsboro seemed to follow her everywhere.

Hopefully, her unlucky streak will end withScream 5, and Sidney can go on to have a normal life where she doesn’t have to sleep with a gun underneath her pillow.
