While I’d love to see The Divergent Series course correct with Allegiant – the books were fine fun – there’s not a lot here to inspire optimism. There’s something about the Divergent movies that are so blatantly trope-y, and trying to crib a sense of wonder off Jonsi only amplifies that reductive quality. The teals and oranges, the generic wasteland, the high-contrast light-lined wall installations and vaugely technical floating towers, and so much almost-kissing. It all seems a bit of a boilerplate effort.
