The most popular medical sitcom of all time is returning to television.Varietyreports thatBill Lawrenceis currently developing a reboot ofScrubsfor ABC. Due to Lawrence’s overall deal withWarner Bros., theTed Lassoco-creator wouldn’t be able to work as a showrunner if the newScrubsis ordered as a full series. Still, the writer remains heavily committed to breathing new life to the series that entertained audiences over the course of nine seasons. No cast members from the original series have been confirmed to be returning for the new production as of this moment.
Scrubsfollows the doctors, nurses and patients of the famous Sacred Heart Hospital. What makes this facility peculiar is the fact that it is a teaching hospital. The title of the series is in reference to surgical scrubs and how the term is used to call low-ranking medical interns. The first seven seasons of the original series were aired onNBC, with the final two installments of the story making their way to audiences throughABC. The new iteration ofScrubsis also being developed through ABC. 20th Century Television is producing, since 20th Century Studios was acquired byDisney2019.
The main characters ofScrubswere J.D. Dorian (Zach Braff), Elliott Reed (Sarah Chalke), Christopher Turk (Donald Faison), the Janitor (Neil Flynn), Bob Kelson (Ken Jenkins) and many other personalities who delighted audiences from all over the world with the unpredictable situations that took place inside the walls of the Sacred Heart Hospital. It remains to be seen which cast members from the original series will be back once the new version ofScrubsis produced.

The people who worked onScrubshave been very busy ever since the comedy came to an end. Bill Lawrence, who created the series for NBC, went on to work on successfulApple TV+titles such asTed LassoandShrinking. The cast behind the Sacred Heart Hospital has also been featured in prominent entertainment projects. Zach Braff went on to voiceChicken Littlebefore moving on towards appearances inArrested DevelopmentandBoJack Horseman. And Sarah Chalke had a very important role in another popular comedy,How I Met Your Mother. Time will tell which of these stars will return for the next iteration ofScrubs.
