The X-Filesreboot from everyone’s current favorite filmmaker,Ryan Coogler, has gotten another fantastic update, only a few days after Coogler himself hinted at what’s ahead. This time around,Gillian Anderson, popularly known for portrayingFBI Special Agent Dana Scullyin the original Fox series as well as the subsequent feature films, spoke up about the upcoming reboot, including a potential appearance that she seems open to. Meanwhile, further details about the promising project remain in discussion but will certainly be unveiled in due time.
PerDigital Spy, during Anderson’s appearance on Britain’s daytime program,This Morning, on Wednesday, April 30, theX-Filesrebootwas brought up by co-hostsCat DeeleyandBen Shephard. Shepard said he’d been listening to a podcast interview with Coogler, where the director mentionedspeaking to Gillian about the series revival. TheSex Educationstar confirmed they had indeed had a conversation whereby she wished him the “best of luck” and expressed her interest in getting involved. In her words:

“I have spoken to him, and what I said was, ‘If anyone were to do it, I think you would be the perfect person’, and ‘Best of luck, best of luck. Call me.’ If the phone rings, and it’s good, and it feels like the right time… perhaps. That’s what I said.”
The podcast Shephard was possibly referring to is theLast Podcast on the Left, whereCoogler gave a huge update on his next project,TheX-Filesreboot, following the tremendous success of his most recent pic,Sinners. Admittedly, the Academy Award nominee has been excited about the new venture for “a long time” and is “fired up to get back to it.” He also spoke of Anderson possibly reprising her role, saying:

“I’ve spoken to the great Gillian Anderson. She’s amazing. She’s incredible. You know, fingers crossed there."
Ryan Coogler’s ‘X-Files’ Is Not the First Potential Reboot
News of Coogler’sX-Filesproject was first reported in March 2023 as a reboot of the original series that ran from September 1993 to May 2002 on Fox. At the time, the show’s creator,Chris Carter, confirmed this before stating in February 2024 that he was not involved with the production. It should also be noted that theBlack Pantherdirector’s revival won’t be the first potential continuation of the sci-fi drama, as in August 2020, Fox announced that an animated comedy-oriented reboot series was in development, under the working titleThe X-Files: Albuquerque. However, in March, three years later, it was confirmed that the series would not be moving forward.
Coogler’sX-Filesrevival is still a work in progress. For further information about the project, do stay tuned to Collider.
