With production gearing up,Focus Featureshas recently announced two cast members that will be joining its upcoming film,LisaFrankenstein. Fresh off her success as Millie Kessler inFreaky,Kathryn Newton, who is currently set to appear inAnt-Man and theWasp: Quantumania,will star in the film alongsideCole Sprouse, widely known for his role inRiverdale.
In an allusion to the title of the film, the story will follow theFrankensteinformula and will center around a teenage girl who accidentally re-animates the corpse of a young man and rebuilds him to her liking, The premise of the film will draw inspiration from the originalFrankensteinstory written byMary Shelley.
Lisa Frankensteinwill be directed byZelda Williamsin her feature film directorial debut. The film will be written byDiablo Cody, who won the Academy Award for Best Writing, Original Screenplay for the critically acclaimed film,Juno. Cody will also produce the film alongside Mason Novick of MXN Entertainment. The duo previously collaborated onJunoalongside other films such asTullyandJennifer’s Body.Jeff Lampertwill executive produce the film withMichelle Momplaisirattached as creative executive.

The themes and imagery of the original novel have remained strong in pop culture with several films and novels taking inspiration from the classic gothic tale. Some notable films in recent memory that follow theFrankensteinformula include theTim Burtonstop-motion animated filmFrankenweenie(2012),which focused on a boy re-animating his dog, andVictorFrankenstein(2015) which saw Igor, Victor Frankenstein’s lab assistant, get a more prominent role in the story.

While no release date for the film has been set, principal photography will commence this summer as production is set to start soon.
