With summer winding down, it’s time to look ahead to the spooky season. On top of all the new theatrical releases, thehorrorgenre has been dominating physical media. The fall is no different with the release ofChucky’s complete TV series and the first twoHalloweenfilms getting brand new 4K editions. However, in the ’80s there was only one horror icon with the definitive crown:Freddy Krueger. Now a majority of the slashervillain’s films are coming to 4K for the first time.

Warner Bros. will be releasing anew 7-film 4K/Digital combo pack collectionthis fall with Freddy’s mean burnt mug on the cover. The films are the first seven entries in the franchise, including the 1984 classicA Nightmare on Elm Street,Freddy’s Revenge,Dream Warriors,The Dream Master,The Dream Child,Freddy’s DeadandWes Craven’s New Nightmare. This is the second 4K release coming for Freddy, as it was previously reported that the same batch of slashers would be getting anAmazon-exclusive 4K steelbook collection, after the first film got theindividual 4K treatmentlast year for the franchise’s 40th anniversary. The standard seven-film collection will be $99.99 USD.

“You’re My Boyfriend Now Nancy!”

It’ll be interesting to see if any of the sequels get individual 4K releases. While none are as classic as the first film, there are a few gems that are must-watches for any slasher fan. This includesA Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream WarriorsandWes Craven’s New Nightmare. The latter of which sees an entity terrorizeHeather Langenkamp(Nancy from the first film), Craven (as himself) andRobert Englund(who plays Freddy Krueger in the franchise) in the real world. Sound familiar? The director would makeScreamtwo years later with a similar meta approach.

Like the Blu-ray collections that were released a handful of years ago, the only two films not included in these 4K sets areFreddy vs. Jasonand the 2010Nightmare on Elm StreetremakestarringRooney Mara. The remake is often considered the worst of the franchise, being a lackluster shot-for-shot recreation of the originalNightmare.Whether these two films come to 4K in the future remains to be seen.
