It was a Gecko Brothers reunion at South by Southwest today, asRobert Rodriguezreunited withZane HoltzandD.J. Cotrona. From 2014 to 2016, Holtz and Cotrona starred onFrom Dusk till Dawn: The Series, which Rodriguez adapted from his popular 1996 action horror film. Holtz shared the photo of the trio on Instagram.
From Dusk till Dawn: The Seriespremiered in 2014 on the El Rey Network, a new cable channel spearheaded by Rodriguez to showcase Latin American culture. It ran for three seasons before ending in 2016: it was never formally canceled, but its cast members were eventually released from their contracts, making a fourth season unlikely. In aretrospective review last year, Collider’sKelcie Mattsonpraised the series for combining “the escalating tension of a heist thriller with the unhinged gore of a throwback vampire B-movie — all set within a sun-tinted Neo-Western landscape.” Could there be a revival in the works? Probably not, but one can never be sure when it comes to the undead.

What Is ‘From Dusk till Dawn: The Series’ About?
An adaptation ofRodriguez' 1996 film,From Dusk till Dawn: The Seriesstarred Cotrona and Holtz as bank robbers Seth and Richie Gecko; on the run from the Texas Rangers, they take preacher Jacob Fuller (Robert Patrick) and his family hostage, commandeering their RV to reach safety in Mexico. Once there, they seek a little succor in a seedy roadside strip club, thanks to a tip from a local connection. Unfortunately for all involved, the staff and patrons of the bar are bloodthirsty vampires, led by the demon queen Santanico Pandemonium (Eiza González). As night falls, the Geckos and their hostages fight to stay alive — and stay human. The first season adapts and expands the events of the film, while the second and third seasons delve deeper into Mesoamerican mythology and chronicle the further adventures of the series' surviving characters.
The Austin-based Rodriguez is a familiar presence at South by Southwest (SXSW). He launched Brass Knuckle Films at this year’s festival; it’s a new venture that allows fans to directly invest in a new slate of action films. The ever-busy filmmaker has a number of other projects in the works, including a gender-swapped revival ofZorro, and a reboot of his cult high-school sci-fi horrorThe Facultyfrom Companion’sDrew Hancock.
