There’s a part ofEliot’s (Christian Kane)past that the crew ofLeverage: Redemptionhas no idea about, and it has to do with one of the villains from the original TNT seriesLeverage. In Season 3 of the prequel, unbeknownst to the others, Eliot worked for Damien Moreau (Goran Visnjic), and he once hinted as much, explaining at the time to his teammates that he’d been trying to protect them, which he saw as his job. Still, we never found out what exactly he did for Moreau, and it seems like that question will never be answered, according to the reboot’s showrunner.
In the “The Big Bang Job” episode ofLeverageSeason 3, Eliot revealed to the crew that the worst thing he had ever done in his life was for Moreau, and he’ll “never be clean of that.” But whenthief Parker (Beth Riesgraf)asked what he did, he begged, “Don’t ask me that, Parker. Because if you ask me, I’m going to tell you. So, please, don’t ask me.” Discussing that mystery aspect of Eliot’s backstory with TV Insider,Leverage: RedemptionbossJohn Rogers, who also co-created the original series, said:

“It’s interesting because Christian [Kane] has said, ‘I know what it is,’ and I said, ‘Don’t tell me. Whatever you’re going to have, whatever I’m going to have, whateverChris DowneyorDean [Devlin]has in their head is all going to be different. It doesn’t matter. What you believe is the worst thing he’s ever did is what will give you the performance.'”
Can Eliot Be Redeemed in ‘Leverage: Redemption’?
As someone who has killed so many people,Kane’s characterhas never seen himself as redeemable, accepting the fact that he will “never see the promised land,” according to the series’ co-creator. Rogers also recalled a devastating line in theLeverage: RedemptionSeason 2 finalewhere Eliot said, “I appreciate the opportunity to be useful,” which also established the character’s tragic sense of self. So now, the only path to his redemption is guiding others there, as Rogers added:
“This is the tragedy of the show. There’s no greater hero than a man who believes he will never see the promised landand spends his entire life trying to get other people there. And that’s Eliot. It’s funny, he’s much harsher on Eliot than I am. I’m like, ‘He could be redeemed,’ and both of those guys are like, ‘No,he’s going to hell.'”
