The Walking Deadat the peak of its powers, was one of the most beloved television shows around. After enjoying a lengthy, multi-season run, the mainline series ended, giving way to the arrival of spin-offs which explored different characters in new locations. From key spin-offs likeFear the Walking Dead, the franchise began to expand, telling new stories as time passed. Serving as both an executive producer and showrunner,Scott Gimplehas long held sway over the franchise, charting its course. Despite being infested by zombies, Gimple has come to love the franchise, and he recently revealed a previously concluded spinoff he’d like to revisit.

Currently,The Walking Deadfranchise is being driven by spinoffs likeThe Walking Dead: Dead City,The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, andThe Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. However, before any of these shows aired, the anthology series,Tales of the Walking Dead, had premiered in 2022, with a single six-episode season. Despite bringing on some big names as single-episode guest stars, including the likes ofAnthony Edwards,Terry Crews, andDaniella Pineda. Speaking toThe Directrecently, Gimple revealed to the outlet that he was passionate about making more later on. His comments read:

“I’m desperate to do more of those. We don’t have imminent plans to do it, but I’m constantly, constantly, constantly bringing it up. It’s a more challenging show because of the variety, because you’re starting at zero every episode. So that’s one thing that’s sort of slowing it down a little bit. But I always keep it in the mix as a possibility.”

The Walking Dead: Dead CityfollowsJeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan andLauren Cohan’s Maggie as they make their way in a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, surrounded by anarchy, danger and, of course, the undead. InThe Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, we see the focus fixed initially on Daryl (Norman Reedus), as he makes his way through France. His best friend, Carol (Melissa McBride) joins him soon enough in Season 2, and the pair now drive the narrative for the series.Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes and Danai Gurira’s Michonne Grimeslead the story inThe Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. Several stories, following different characters, but there could be more, Gimple suggests in the same piece with The Direct. He adds:

“We can only put out so many ‘Walking Dead’ shows, ‘Walking Dead’ hours a year. But to me, I think that’s a layup. I think everybody wants to see more stories of it, and I think we totally just scratched the surface. I really want to see more of the characters from the past, and I know the audience does too. Or things that were referred to in the past that we never saw. So, I’m determined to have it come back, and it’s a very easy show to come back.”
