Shawn Levyis among the filmmakers who have given us amazing content, be it streaming space or the big screen. With back-to-back successful titles likeThe Adams Project,Deadpool and Wolverine,Stranger Things, and more, Levy has given fans brilliant stories across genres, and that’s what makes him a perfect fit for deliveringStar Wars’ next big project,Starfighter.The filmmaker was recently on the red carpet for Stranger Things’ Broadway show,The First Shadow,and shared which lessons from the Netflix show, which he executive produces and directs, he’ll apply to theRyan Goslingstarrer.

“Stranger Things taught me to keep my mouth shut,” Levy said of his lessons. Of course, Levy is no stranger to secrecy having worked on several big IPs including, Marvel Studios, which likes to keep all its secrets tightly under wraps. So, keeping the details of the upcomingStar Warsmovie would have been a little easier this time around. The director further elaborated:

“So I’m really grateful for that because I kept the Ryan Gosling news and the title and release date of my ‘Star Wars’ movie pretty damn quiet for a long time. So I’m quite proud of myself and grateful to ‘Stranger Things’ for making me shut my mouth.”

What’s Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’ About?

While the plot details of the upcoming project are kept tightly under wraps, interesting details came out of the Star Wars Convention, where Collider’sMaggie Lovittwas in attendance. Not only was Gosling’s casting confirmed, butLevy also spoke about where the movie fits in the largerStar WarsUniverse. “The movie is a new adventure, it’s new characters.It takes place in a new period of time after the Battle of Exegol in Episode 9,” he revealed, adding, “It’s a big galaxy, and it feels like there’s an opportunity to do a movie that’s not a prequel, that’s not a sequel, and gives us the Star Wars DNA that we love, but with an adventure that’s all new.”

While no further casting announcements were made, Levy’s frequent collaborator,Jonathan Tropper,is penning the script that Gosling describes as having “so much adventure, so much heart, and original characters.”Star Wars: Starfighterwill fly into theatres on August 10, 2025.
