Fans the world over celebrated the release of a newHarry Potterstory this past weekend as the script book for the new playHarry Potter and the Cursed Childbecame available, but you might wanna savor this one—it’s likely the last release of a newHarry Potterstory ever. Speaking at the premiere of theHarry Potter and the Cursed Childplay in London, authorJ.K. Rowlingrevealed (viaReuters) that with the release ofCursed Child, Potter’s story is now over:

“He goes on a very big journey during these two plays and then, yeah, I think we’re done. This is the next generation, you know. So, I’m thrilled to see it realized so beautifully but, no, Harry is done now.”

When the final book in theHarry Potterseries,Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was released in 2007, Rowling stated that it marked the end of the book series she set out to write, but always left the door open for more Harry Potter stories in the future should she feel inspired. However, given thatCursed Childfollows Harry, Ron and Hermione into adulthood, it leaves little room for even more stories for that core trio, and thus it sounds like Potter’s story has finally (and sadly) come to an end.

But that doesn’t mean Rowling is finished telling stories set within the Wizarding World—far from it. Much likeJ.R.R.Tolkien, the author has done a tremendous job of continuing to flesh out this universe that she created with ancillary stories.Pottermoreallows Rowling to share loads of information that couldn’t fit into the books, and she’s gone on and crafted a whole new trilogy of Wizarding World stories with theFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Themmovies, which take place in the 1920s and follow magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne).

Rowling makes her screenwriting debut withFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, releasing in theaters this November, but Warner Bros. always intended this to be a trilogy (at least) and the author has already completed the script for the sequel. So while Harry Potter’s story, specifically, is at an end, Rowling isn’t saying goodbye to the entire Wizarding World anytime soon. For our case, let’s hope that remains the case for a very long time.
