Somewhere in Texas,Jared Padaleckiis eating nothing but lean meats and vegetables and doing non-stop push-ups and sit-ups in preparation for her upcoming appearance inThe Boys. After much speculation, fan casting, manifestation, and a solid heaping side of hopes and dreams, it was revealed that Padalecki would be joining the satirical superhero series for its fifth and final season. The casting not only reunites Padalecki withSupernaturalcreator,Eric Kripke, who also developedThe Boysfrom comic to screen, but alsohis twoSupernaturalco-stars, Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins. But, if you were hoping for Padalecki to spill the beans about how he’ll fit into the sure-to-be bonkers storyline, he’s keeping it tight-lipped — but not by choice.
During a recent chat with Business Insider, theWalkeralum said that he hasn’t learned much about his highly-anticipated appearance, admitting, “I don’t know a whole lot about it, which is effing terrifying.” While Padalecki and Collins will both be dropping into the guts and gore-filled universe for the first time, Ackles will be a returning offender, havingpreviously appeared in Season 3 as Soldier Boy. Uncertain of how it will all shake out but pretty sure about when he’ll be called to set, Padalecki added,
“I don’t know what we’re doing. I don’t know if we like, bump into each other. I don’t know much about it. They’re still trying to write and figure out who’s gonna be there.But it’ll be the end of this month.”
Walking Into the Lion’s Den
At this stage in the game, Padalecki and Collins are walking into a well-oiled machine, as cast members likeJack Quaid,Karen Fukuhara,Karl UrbanandAntony Starrhave been working on the project for nearly a decade. Padalecki admits that he’s a fan of the series, so he has a solid grasp on what he’s getting himself into, revealing,
“I know Eric Kripke very well. I knowThe Boysvery well. He’s like, ‘Hey, you wanna come play?’ I’m like, ‘Yes, I think?”
The actor, who married hisSupernaturalco-star,Genevieve Padalecki, now has three young children with his wife and was initially uncertain how it would look for him to appear in a show that’s known for itsexplosively vulgar sense of humor. After telling his wife that he was more than likely going to play “a weird role,” Padalecki says that his spouse was nothing but supportive. While the task might be daunting and “fucking terrifying”, Padalecki says he just needed to make sure he had enough time to prep —and by prep we mean get ripped.
“Literally my text to Eric Kripke was like, ‘Hey, if I’m getting naked, just give me like a month’s notice to eat broccoli and rice and chicken breasts and all day long just sit there doing push-ups.”
