Jason Stathamfans are rarely short of something to watch.Since the start of this decade, the British skull-cracker has appeared in a total of eight movies,with another, theaction-packed thrillerMutiny, now moved to a August 19, 2025, release date. Because of this, and thanks to countless action flicks from before the current decade, Statham movies are almost a constant in the revolving door of streaming platforms.
One of Statham’s most recent flicks, a stylish, star-studded project, is the latest in a long line from his filmography to grace our home viewing,officially joining the ranks of Hulu on August 02, 2025. That movie is the slick 2023 effortOperation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, which sees Statham portray an elite espionage agent who must join forces with an actor to stop a dangerous threat. Written and directed byGuy Ritchie, the man who gave Statham his big break inone of the best movies of the 1990s,Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels,Operation Fortuneis the fifth collaboration between the pair, and almost certainly not their last.
Statham is one of several big names in theOperation Fortunecast, with the cast also includingHugh GrantandAubrey Plaza. Grant is another favorite of British filmmaking, although he made his name in the rom-com stylings ofRichard Curtisin the 1990s. Recently, Grant has moved into the darker side of storytelling, also teaming up with Ritchie in 2019’sThe Gentlemen. Plaza is best known for playing one of themost beloved characters inParks and Rec, as well as standing out among a sea of stars inThe White Lotus. TheOperation Fortunecast also featuresCary ElwesandJosh Hartnett, among others.
Was ‘Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre’ a Box Office Success?
Critically,Operation Fortunedidn’t quite capture any solid success.On review aggregatorRotten Tomatoes, the movie holds just 51% from critics, although from audiences, it fared much better, earning an impressive 82%. Sadly, at the box office, the movie was an unmitigated disaster, turning in just$27.8 million globallyfrom a production budget of $50 million. This makes the movie one of the biggest box office failures of 2023, made even more shocking when considering the strength in depth of the film’s stacked cast.
