The last we heard aboutDavid S. Goyer’s Superman prequel projectKryptonwas thatSyfy had ordered up a pilot. The next step was casting someone to play Kal-El’s granddad, since the series takes place two generations before the baby superhero would be stowed safely in a rocket ship and launched off the unstable title planet. Now, asTV Linereports, that casting has been accomplished in the person ofCameron Cuffe, the up-and-coming British actor who recently starred inStephen Frears’featureFlorence Foster Jenkins.

Far from joining the other superhero series on TV, Syfy’sKryptonis only at the pre-production for the pilot right now. The in-the-works prequel series is set two generations before Superman’s home planet exploded and follows Seg-El, who’s a bit of a savant when it comes to technology. The head of the once-prosperous El family now occupies Krypton’s lowest caste after the family was stripped of its rank.Damien Kindler(Sleepy Hollow) has been set as the showrunner, whileColm McCarthy(Peaky Blinders) will direct the pilot.
Cuffe will star oppositeGeorgina Campbellas Lyta Zod a bit of a star-crossed romance, since Campbell’s character is a member of General Zod’s clan. The cast is also expected to include Seg-El’s father and grandfather, as well as Lyta’s mother, Alura. We’ll keep an ear out for any future super casting on this in-development series.

‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Confirms the New Director’s Comic Book Identity
On a recent episode ofAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,Jason O’Maraguest starred as the new director of the agency. But thanks toEWand executive producersJed WhedonandMaurissa Tancharoen, we have confirmation that O’Mara’s character is in fact Jeffrey Mace, a.k.a. the Patriot. In the Marvel comics, Mace was a creation of writerRay Gilland artistBill Everettwho debuted inThe Human Torch# 4 in early 1941. Originally a reporter, he threw on a costume after seeing Captain America in action; he later joined the World War II team the Liberty Legion and even became the third Captain America. OnAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D., he refers to himself both as a former superhero and as an Inhuman, so we’ll see how his arc pans out the rest of this season.
Here’s what Whedon and Tancharoen had to say about his character:
“We are excited to have the Patriot joining our show, a character who has existed in Marvel Comics for 70 years. Jason O’Mara brings a perfect balance of charm, mystery, heroism and humor.”

‘Supergirl’ Exec on That Gotham Reference
Thanks toTV Line, we have a bit of clarification on a recent throwaway line in a promo for The CW’s second season ofSupergirl. After a couple was heard to utter, “We’re moving back to Gotham,” a lot of fans were left wondering whether or not there would be another cross-channel crossover in the near future. Here’s what executive producerAli Adlerhad to say about the quote and the crossover possibility:
“We have this beautiful history with DC, and I like that we get to borrow from this amazing, wonderful canon that we have. I feel like we have our hands full with the crossover we’re shooting right now. I think people will be satisfied with how much crossover they’re getting this season.”
So it looks like the closest thing we’ll get to aGothamcrossover is the arrival ofFloriana Limaas Maggie Sawyer, who’s a Metropolis cop who has a romantic relationship with Batwoman in the pages of DC Comics.
