Fresh off averypositive response from its premiere screening at SXSW, Lionsgate has released a new red-band trailer for the upcoming romantic comedyLong Shot. Written byLiz Hannah(The Post) andDan Sterling(The Office), the film follows the unlikely romance between a hard-hitting political journalist (Seth Rogen) and his first crush (Charlize Theron), who now happens to be the current U.S. Secretary of State and is considering running for President.
The film debuted at SXSW this past weekend to incredibly positive reviews, with folks hailing the romcom as genuinely charming and romantic while also incredibly funny. That’s no surprise given the talent involved, and I had my eye on this one given the involvement of directorJonathan Levine, who also helmedWarm Bodiesand50/50.
The new red-band trailer offers a closer, dirtier look at the film but it’s surprisingly tame as far as Seth Rogen comedies go (see:this week’sGood Boystrailer). Instead, the focus is more on the romance angle at the heart of the movie. As a big fan of the romcom genre, I’m incredibly excited for this one.

Fred Flarsky (Seth Rogen) is a gifted and free-spirited journalist with an affinity for trouble. Charlotte Field (Charlize Theron) is one of the most influential women in the world. Smart, sophisticated, and accomplished, she’s a powerhouse diplomat with a talent for…well, mostly everything. The two have nothing in common, except that she was his babysitter and childhood crush. When Fred unexpectedly reconnects with Charlotte, he charms her with his self-deprecating humor and his memories of her youthful idealism. As she prepares to make a run for the Presidency, Charlotte hires Fred as her speechwriter, much to the dismay of her trusted advisors. A fish out of water on Charlotte’s elite team, Fred is unprepared for her glamourous lifestyle in the limelight. However, sparks fly as their unmistakable chemistry leads to a round-the-world romance and a series of unexpected and dangerous incidents.
