FilmmakerDarren Aronofsky’s new filmmother!already looks insane, and we’ve only seena few seconds of footage. The stage was set with the unveiling of the enigmatic film’s first poster, which featuredJames Jeanartwork ofJennifer Lawrenceliterally holding her heart in her hands, and the intrigue only intensified with the release of a new poster featuringJavier Bardem. Lawrence and Bardem play a couple whose relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive at their home and disrupt their “tranquil existence,” but that’s about all we know about the movie’s plot thus far.
However, there are some pretty great/terrifying Easter Eggs hidden in the artwork.The film’s Instragram accountposted close-ups of the Lawrence and Bardem posters with snippets of audio from the recently released teaser trailer. Throwing the audio into a pro audio tool then subsequently reveals Spectragrams, like this one below:
So yeah, that’s insanely creepy. But the Easter Eggs don’t stop there. Here are the two posters released thus far:
But if we take a closer look at the Lawrence poster, we see an old photo of what appears to be Bardem’s character, an ominous jewelry box of some sort, and a lighter.
Then looking at the Bardem poster, we see the same lighter, a reflection of what appears to be a baby in the orb he’s holding, and faces in the flames.
What does this all mean? I’m not sure, but it’s definitely nightmarish. I really don’t know what to expect from the film, which is the best feeling. Is Bardem playing the literal Devil in aRosemary’s Baby-type story? Is this all a dream? Does their house get set on fire? We’ll surely find out whenmother!hits theaters on September 15th.
