It’s Monday which means it’s time for the weekend box office report brought to you by our friends at AMC theatres. Proving once again that Disney owns the box office, theirlive actionJungle Bookmovie destroyed estimates, taking in an astounding 103.5 million at the box office, making it the second largest April opening behindFurious 7. Bolstered by an impressive 95% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie also took in 136.1 million worldwide bringing the worldwide opening to 290.9 million dollars. Far behind in the No 2 spot wasBarber Shop: the Next Cutwith 20.2 million.The Bossfell to the No 3 spot with 10.1 million dollars and beatingBatman v Supermanyet again. The Superhero epic took the No 4 spot, with 9 million dollars, dropping 61.4% in its fourth weekend in release with a domestic cume now at $311.3 million. And at No 5, Disney’sZootopiawith 8.2 million, becoming the tenth animated film to ever gross over $300 million at the domestic box office.

Back in January it was reported thatThe ImpossibledirectorJ.A. Bayonahad dropped offWorld War Z 2with the likelihood of heading over to to Universal to directJurassic World 2. This morning itwas finally confirmed when producerFrank Marshalltook to Twitter to make the announcement saying he is thrilled to welcome J.A. Bayona to the team.
Central IntelligencestarsDwayne JohnsonandKevin Hartlook to re-team sooner rather than later with Variety reporting that Johnson and Hart areworking out schedules to star in Sony’sJumanjiremake.Jake Kasdanis directing the remake from a script written byScott RosenbergandJeff Pinkner. Though no deal has been signed, Variety’s sources say it’s looking good that the Rock and Hart will work their schedules around in time for a start of production.Jumanjiis scheduled for release on July 02, 2025.

Star Wars: The Force Awakenswas a rousing success with both fans and critics alike but there is still one question that haunts the fans to this very day – that being the parentage of the films lead protagonist Rey, played byDaisy Ridley. The topic of Rey’s parents was broached by hostChris Rockat the Tribeca Film festival this past weekendwhere he askedJ.J. Abramsabout the questionon everyone’s mind. J.J. said at first that Rey’s parents were not in the film but later clarified that Rey didn’t discover who they are inEpisode VII, and they might still be in her world.

An epic bidding war is currently underway with a number of studiosbidding on the rights to make a live actionPokemonmovie. THR reports that Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. are contenders noting that Legendary Entertainment is emerging as the potential frontrunner. A spokesperson for Legendary, which since January has become a division of China’s Dalian Wanda Group, declined to comment. THR notes that if Legendary, a Chinese-owned company, acquires the beloved Japanese property, it could cause a “stir” given the historic tensions between the two countries. No update as of yet.
AsJustice Leaguebegins filming, we know of only the main players in the line-up with very little information about other cast members except that is for Commissioner Gordon played by Oscar-winnerJ.K. Simmons.Collider was able to sit down with the actorat the press event for Simmons’ new movie,The Meddler, and asked what he wants to do with the character and how it compares to other interpretations from the past. Simmons said he will do his own take on it while also trying to do something different over his last comic book role, that of J. Jonah Jameson inSam Raimi’sSpider-Mantrilogy.

Disney’s live action adaptation ofPete’s Dragonhas been very careful the hiding the look of the dragon in both the trailer and accompanying poster. But that all changed whenEntertainment Weekly dropped an exclusive imagerevealing what the beast looks like as it is standing over Pete, played byOakes Fegley. The movie is directed byDavid Lowery, and will starBryce Dallas Howard,Wes Bentley,Karl Urban, andRobert Redford. The movie hits theatres August 12th.
