Even though we’ve barely reached the summer movie season yet, it’s been another killer year forhorror. Particularly for slashers.Heart Eyeshas already carved up Valentine’s Day, but later this month,Fear Street: Prom Queenwill turn the end of the school year blood-red. TheR.L. StineNetflix film is returning genre fans to the cursed town of Shadyside. Now, the film is paying tribute to high school slashers' past with some new deadly posters.
The two new Prom Queen posters honor 1976’s Brian De Palma adaptation ofCarrieand 1980’sProm Night, the latter of which starred horror iconJamie Lee Curtis. TheCarrie-inspired poster mirrors the two-image classic design, showing the before and bloody aftermath of starIndia Fowlerat Shadyside’s Prom. The tagline, “If You’re Hungry For Horror… Come To Shadyside’s Senior Prom” is also very similar toCarrie’s chilling warning. Finally, theProm Night-inspired poster featuresProm Queen’s red-centric killer front and center. They’re holding a knife in front of their face with “Doors at Eight… Slaughter at Midnight!” setting the dyer tone. Films likeCarrieandProm Nightdefined this unique sub-genre of horror, so it’s nice to see the next generation of terror celebrating the past before Prom Queen leaves its own fatal mark on the genre.
