The news comes fromTHR, who reports that the studio is developing a new TMNT movie and has hired screenwriterAndrew Dodgeto pen the script. Dodge earned industry attention for his Blacklist scriptBad Words, which ultimately turned into the 2013 directing and starring vehicle forJason Bateman.
Platinum Dunes teamMichael Bay,Andrew Form, andBrad Fullerwill once again produce theTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesfilm for Paramount. Platinum Dunes also produced 2014’sTeenage Mutant Ninja Turtlesand the 2016 sequelOut of the Shadows.This year, the team is riding high on the success of their Paramount-distributed action thrillerA Quiet Placeand has Blumhouse/Universal’sThe First Purgearriving in theaters next month.

No word yet on where the new film will pick up with the anthropomorphic teenage turtles or if it will tie into Paramount’s previous twoNinja Turtlesmovies. The first film starredMegan Foxas April O’Neil and found the group of mutant superhero facing off against shredder and the Foot Clan in the city sewers, settling in at $493 million worldwide. The sequel addedSteven Amell’s Casey Jones in the mix alongside fan favorite characters Bebop and Rocksteady and the villainous Krang.
The follow-up took a big hit at the box office, earning only $245 million worldwide in a surprise to the producers, but that sequel was before the arrival of chairmanJim Gianopulos, who THR notes has “made it a priority to clean up the studio’s slate and refocus its franchises” and is looking to “bring a patina of quality as they relaunch the franchise.”
