The doors of the Arconia are open again, as the fourth season ofOnly Murders in the Buildinghas begun production. The news comes from starSelena Gomez, who shared an Instagram Story of the bouquet of roses she received from co-starsSteve MartinandMartin Short, captioned “Day 1”. The card on the flowers reads “We’re so happy to be back with you” - a sentiment shared with fans of the Hulu mystery comedy series, which wasrenewed for a fourth seasonat the conclusion of its third season last fall.
So far, most details of the fourth season have been kept under wraps, but we do know that in addition to Mabel Mora (Gomez), Charles Haden-Savage (Martin), and Oliver Putnam (Short), Loretta Durkin (Meryl Streep), a struggling actress who joined the ensemble last year, will be returning for another season. The fourth season will also see the addition of a trio of high-profile newcomers;Saturday Night LivealumnusMolly Shannon, ex-Desperate HousewivesstarEva Longoria, and Short’s oldSCTVcolleagueEugene Levy. And those new characters may not be confined to the halls of the Arconia apartment building - the series will beleaving New Yorkfor a few episodes for the warmer climes of Los Angeles.
What Happened in Season 3 of ‘Only Murders in the Building’?
Season 3 opened with flailing Broadway impresario Putnam mounting a new show -Death Rattle, a murder mystery starring Durkin, Haden-Savage, and Hollywood superstar Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd). Unfortunately, opening night ended with Glenroy taking a fatal plunge down one of the Arconia’s elevator shafts. Once more, the true-crime enthusiast trio sprang into action, chasing down a number of false leads, including Glenroy’s stalker, his makeup artist, and even Durkin before finding thereal murderer- one of the play’s financiers, who wanted to forestall the play’s failure by killing its leading man. Unfortunately, no sooner was that case close than another arose close to home -Sazz Pataki(Jane Lynch), Charles' longtime stunt double and friend, was shot and killed in his apartment by a mystery assailant who presumably mistook her for Charles.
Debuting in 2021,Only Murders in the Buildinghas become a solid hit for Hulu with both critics and audiences. Collider’sRemus Noronhagave season 3 aglowing review, finding that it “carries a lot more emotional weight and personal drama than previous seasons”.
