With so many TV shows to choose from, on broadcast networks, cable channels and various streaming services, there is no shortage of dramas and comedies. It would be impossible to watch them everything, even if you wanted to, but since I do watch a fair amount, all over the map, I like to highlight the stand-outs for me, every year. Compelling storytelling, superb performances and exciting new worlds to watch and explore are all things that make an audience want to stick with characters and watch them through their ups and downs....

One of the biggest shakeups to hit the fall broadcast schedules this year is The CW moving into six nights a week of original scripted programming. With a hefty dose of superhero series and the retention of almost all of its shows from last year, five nights simply wasn’t enough. Forging forth into this Sunday schedule will beSupergirland theCharmedreboot, followed byLegends of Tomorrowon Monday, a night which will also beArrow’s new home....

I lovedSteve Jobs. Featuring exceptional work by the entire cast, brilliant direction byDanny Boyle, and a dazzling script byAaron Sorkin,Steve Jobsis one of those rare movies where everything works perfectly and it’s absolutely worth your time and money. It’s definitely going to be a player in this year’s awards season. Unlike most biopics that try and tell someone’s whole life story in two hours, the film consists of three principal scenes that each take place during a major product launch in Jobs’ career: the Macintosh in 1984, the NeXT in 1988, and the iMac in 1998....

Every year at Sundance, the festival offers up a surprise screening and this year it was writer-directorStephen Merchant’sFighting with My Family. The film is based on the experiences of real-life wrestlerPaige, a.k.a.Saraya-Jade Bevis, and the 2012 documentaryThe Wrestlers: Fighting with My Family. As you’ve probably seen in the well-cut trailer, Paige comes from a family of wrestlers and the film does a great job showcasing where she came from and how hard she worked to land a professional contract with the WWE....

In a bit of shocking and unfortunate news,No Time to Diehas lost its composer mere months before the film is due to be released. The 25th Bond film suffered setbacks throughout its development asDanny Boylewas originally onboard to direct based on an original idea he hatched withJohn Hodge, only for the duo toexit over creative differencesa few months before filming was due to begin. The film’s producers went back to the drawing board and enlistedCary Joji Fukunagato take the helm, but this time with a new script that includes work by Bond veteransNeal PurvisandRobert Wade,Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Fukunaga himself....
