There’s nothing remotely scandalous or dramatic about the first date between our nation’s First Couple, so what’s the need to chronicle the event inBefore Sunrise-esque fashion? But once I was watching the film I understood: Barack Obama’s presidency is an undeniably historic event in our nation’s history—he’s the first non-white President ever, and Michelle is the first non-white First Lady ever, so understanding the “origin story” and background of this couple is actually quite noteworthy....

I am not a fan of theSawseries. I saw the first movie in theaters back in 2004, thought it was one of the worst movies I had ever seen, and had no desire to go back for its many sequels. And yet the new spinoff,Spiral: From the Book of Saw, offered an alluring promise. As a spinoff, I wasn’t required to familiarize myself with the six sequels or the 2017 rebootJigsaw....

I thought the direction onThe Greatest Showmanwas pretty impressive, but it looks likeMichael Gracey, who made his feature debut on the musical, had a bit of help from a veteran helmer. According toVariety,James Mangoldwas called in to oversee a week of reshoots after 20th Century Fox became concerned that Gracey had become overwhelmed on the project. Since Gracey had only previously done commercials (he met starHugh Jackmanon a 2010 ad for Lipton Iced Tea), the studio decided they needed a seasoned director who also had a rapport with Jackman....
