Sony Pictures has unveiled a new TV spot for the original sci-fi filmPassengersthat shows off some new footage from the highly promising thriller. “Original sci-fi” isn’t a word that gets tossed around too often anymore, so that’s reason enough to care aboutPassengers. Throw in the fact that it’s a two-hander starringJennifer LawrenceandChris Pratt, plus it looksgorgeous, and you’ve got yourself a holiday treat.
Scripted byJon Spaihtsand directed byMorten Tyldum(The Imitation Game), the story takes place aboard a spaceship that’s in the midst of a 90-year journey to bring a boatload of passengers to their new lives on a distant planet. Lawrence and Pratt play two passengers who are mysteriously awoken too early, and who start to fall for one another before the ship finds itself in grave peril.

The cinematography byRodrigo Prietois off the charts in this thing, and this new TV spot only furthers my excitement not just for the visuals, but for the mystery behind why Pratt and Lawrence’s characters wake up. Here’s hoping this is an original sci-fi film that makes a mark on audiences, leaving them with a desire for more sci-fi stories that aren’t simply shameless reboots/rehashes of familiar IP.
