Retta has seen her fair share of bizarre design disasters onHGTV’sUgliest House in America, butone trend leaves her truly baffled: carpeted bathrooms with no doors. That’s right, carpeted bathrooms are a whole vibe on the show and she explored such a home on the series, proclaiming this design trend to be the worst ever.“You have got to be kidding me,” she said during the episode when she came across the fuzzy room. “What were they thinking? I’m afraid to touch the walls!”

Carpet in Bathroom Has To Be the Worst Trend Ever Especially on ‘Ugliest House in America’

Retta has seen a lot during her time hosting the hilarious HGTV series, but that bathroom. Theonlybathroom. Located on the second floor, the shag carpet was the star, even though the claw-foot tub was up on a pedestal. There was literally a water closet, which was home to the toilet and a mold-infested shower. As the owners and Retta agreed, they’ll use the tub. But the carpet. It’s a wild decision for a space where moisture reigns supreme. It’s going to become mold-infested, so deciding to use carpet in this space is downright baffling. Hopefully, Retta’s reach will encourage others to disown the shag in their own abodes. How this home didn’t win is also, quite baffling.

She still can’t wrap her head around why someone would carpet a bathroom. “Carpeting in bathrooms. I still can’t believe that is a thing,” she toldDeciderwhen asked what design trend baffles her. “Also, there is a new thing that we started calling the ‘door-dow,’ which is a window that used to be a door and gets switched.”

Alison Victoria poses in her kitchen during ‘Rock the Block’ Season 1.

While carpet in the bathroom is the ultimate offender, this house had no shortage of design disasters. The metallic wallpaper and Styrofoam egg carton ceiling in the kids' room were bad enough—but the pink and red shag carpet flowing into rooms where it had no business being truly put everything into perspective. It was clear why this home earned a spot onUgliest House in America. It almost felt as if the homeowners prepared the place for their 15 minutes of HGTV fame. But alas, this is where they live. And where they lived with their atrocious decisions. Thankfully, they were not the original owners and were planning to gut it anyway.

‘Ugliest House in America’ Does Have a Happy Ending

After touring America in search of the titular home, Retta found one that checked the most boxes for dysfunction, ugliness, and outright shock value. But have no fear, designerAlison Victoria, took the terrible property and ultimately made it pretty in pink. Lovingly known as “the collage barrage,“it was originally littered with questionable design choices, including wall collages made from broken mirror fragments and random objects such as bottles, marbles, and trinkets embedded in the mortar of interior brick walls, Retta noted, “The previous owners' artistic license should have been revoked. There’s no method. It’s just madness.”

With a pink door into the newfound pink palace,Victoria’s extraordinary design transformed the home into something clean, beautiful, and actually liveable. Now, if you don’t love pink, the pink accents, which included a pink range and refrigerator, would have been too much. Victoria’s expertise ensured these elements were tastefully curated and made it special. It truly became aBarbieDreamhouse. But have no fear, no carpet in this house’s bathroom!
