The theatrical release date forRogue One: A Star Wars Storyis just around the corner, the final trailer is behind us, and that means it’s TV spot and promo time. Today brings a quick TV spot that findsFelicity Jones' Jyn Erso speechifying and rallying her troops with the promise of a rebellion built on hope. What’s impessive about it is how the quick teaser manages to inspire some of that Star Wars sense of wonder and epic scale in about 30 seconds. Hopefully that’s the tone they land on in the film, which is a bit of a gamble for Lucasfilm.
Gareth Edwards’s prequel spinoff, which follows the team of rebels that infiltrated the Empire to steal the Death Star plans, is the first live-actionStar Warsfilm to branch away from the generational narative of the Skywalkers and Solos. And while later trailers revealed that Darth Vader will make an appearance, it doesn’t even have a recognizable in-universe character to lead the charge (like say, that Han Solo prequel). What it does have is a unique and stunning visual style and the luxury of the vastStar Warsuniverse to play in. After the massive success ofStar Wars: The Force Awakens, I’m definitely eager to see how Lucasfilm expands their universe, and how audiences respond to it.

Watch the newRogue One teaser below. The film opens December 16th and also starsDiego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, andForest Whitaker.
