If Disney could rub a magic lamp and wish for the year 2025 to begin again, it likely would. The studio will have learned its lessons by now, after having delivered two massive under-performers at the box office. But perhaps there was no savingCaptain America: Brave New WorldandSnow Whiteat all. There was a reason why the two movies were delayed, and it would appear that the concern was warranted. Now firmly at the end of its theatrical run,Snow Whiteis struggling to pass what will be its final global box office milestone. This, too, will be a largely ceremonial achievement, as it hasno chance of becoming profitable theatrically.

With $85 million domestically and another $110 million from overseas markets,Snow White’scumulative global haul stands at $195 million so far. Does it have the $5 million necessary to hit the $200 million mark? Who knows? What’s for certain is the fact that it will not come close to recovering itsreported $250 million-plus budget. Either way, the film’s break-even point would likely be around $500 million worldwide, which means that theatrically, it’sgoing tolose the Mouse House hundreds of millions.

ButSnow Whitewill continue generating money through a host of ancillary streams, and will perhaps even turn a profit over time. It will always be remembered as the movie that almost ended Disney’s streak of live-action remakes after years of success. Things began to show signs of disrepair not too long ago, whenTim Burton’sDumboremake under-performed. A few years later,The Little Mermaidhad a tumultuous theatrical run before ultimately finding success. Like that movie,Snow Whitealso attracted controversy prior to its release.

Rachel Zegler Isn’t Responsible for ‘Snow White’s Box Office

Most of it seemed to originate from trolls directing hate towards starRachel Zegler, whose pro-Palestine comments wereincorrectly blamed for the movie’s failure. But what about the 40% rating that it has received on the aggregator websiteRotten Tomatoes? And what about the fact that movies based on theSnow Whitefable have never really been successful at the box office? However, there’s something to be said about a bomb of this magnitude, becauseSnow Whitehas fallen short of evenKristen Stewart’s forgottenSnow White and the Huntsman, which made around twice as much worldwide.
