In the modern era of television, there is no such thing as a “break” from new series — even in the summer months, networks and streaming services find ways to fill up hours of airtime. While production shutdowns this spring may mean that the number of series released this year may drop dramatically, the next few months are still pretty packed with new releases and returning favorites.

From Netflix’s youth-targeted offeringsThe Baby-Sitters ClubandCursed, to Apple TV+ premiering new shows meant to inspire, includingDear…andLittle Voice, to whatever the hell HBO’sPerry Masonmight end up being, there are a lot of fascinating shows on the horizon. Below, we look forward to the TV we’re most excited about over the next few months — there’s plenty of opportunity for disappointment, of course, but also plenty of opportunity for some great shows to entertain, enlighten, or at the very least distract us for a little bit.

F Is for Family (Season 4)

Premiere:June 12 on Netflix

Creators:Bill Burr, Michael Price

Cast:Bill Burr, Laura Dern, Justin Long, Debi Derryberry, Sam Rockwell, Haley Reinhart, Mo Collins, Jonathan Banks

It feels like ages since we last checked in with the Murphy clan, and a quick Google search informs me thatF Is for FamilySeason 3 premiered on Aug 23, 2025! A year and a half later, things are more or less the same for Frank, Sue, Kevin, Bill, and Maureen, though change is certainly in the air. For starters, rather than continue to be bullied, Bill decides tobecomea bully himself — on the ice, of course. Slacker Kevin finally gets serious about his band, as well as a new girlfriend who encourages him to read these things called books. Even though Frank (co-creatorBill Burr) and Sue (Laura Dern) have their hands full, there’s another baby on the way, and a new Murphy isn’t the only addition to the family — the original Murphy is back, too! That’s right, Frank’s estranged father joins the show in Season 4 and there’s still some bad blood between them.Jonathan BanksfromBreaking Badvoices Frank’s dad, Big Bill, and let’s just say the apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Meanwhile, neighbor Vic (Sam Rockwell) isn’t the coolest guy ever anymore. He’s 30, which makes him a dinosaur in the music business, but he thinks he’s found an act that can take him back to the top.

What I love aboutF Is for Familyis how it’s about real people and real problems. All due respect toFamily Guy, but there are no talking dogs or talking babies to be found here. The serialized nature of the show keeps you invested in the storyline. It’s not like a sitcom, where whatever happens in one episode doesn’t matter in the next. There are consequences. There’s fallout. These characters remember every fight and petty slight, and that’s part of the reason it’s so relatable. We’ll see how Big Bill affects the family dynamic when Season 4 debuts on June 12. -Jeff Sneider

The fellas fromRobot Chickenare bringing their signature stop-motion weirdness to Hulu for this wild take on medieval times, focusing on a peasant whose big chance to work in the castle ends up going horribly wrong (and hilarious). Just look at that voice cast above and try not to get excited forCrossing Swords’combination of crude jokes (including full-frontal nudity) and super-cute animation style. -Liz Shannon Miller

One Day At A Time: “The Politics Episode”

Premiere:June 16 on Pop TV

Creators:Gloria Calderon Kellett, Mike Royce

Cast:Justina Machado, Todd Grinnell, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz, Stephen Tobolowsky, Rita Moreno, Gloria Estefan, Melissa Fumero, Lin-Manuel Miranda

With physical production shut down, shows likeOne Day at a Timeare attempting all kinds of unconventional solutions to keep telling stories, and thus behold the adorable animated characters above, who will stand in for their real-life counterparts in this special episode produced entirely remotely, with special guest stars Gloria Estefan, Melissa Fumero, and Lin-Manuel Miranda phoning in their performances as extended members of the Alvarez clan. It’s not the same as an episode performed in front of a live studio audience, of course, but it’ll be lovely to see the family back in action (sorta). -Liz Shannon Miller

The Politician (Season 2)

Premiere:June 19 on Netflix

Creators:Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, Ian Brennan

Cast:Ben Platt, Zoey Deutch, Lucy Boynton, Bette Midler, Gwyneth Paltrow, Judith Light

Ryan Murphy’s first original series under his megadeal with Netflix was the ambitious candy-coated dramedyThe Politician, and the series returns for its second season this summer. The conceit of the show from the very beginning was to chart one man’s rise to the U.S. Presidency from his early days in high school, with each season focusing on a new election. And while Season 1 foundBen Platt’s Payton Hobart running for class president, a time jump puts Season 2’s focus on Payton’s surprise bid for New York State Senate. His opponent is a character played byJudith Light, and Season 2 appears to contrast the ideals between this cutthroat upstart and a political veteran. Making things even more interesting is Murphy’s recent comments that the show will take a substantial break between Season 2 and Season 3 so Platt can age into the character’s race for President, which will likely mark the show’s final season. -Adam Chitwood

Love, Victor

Premiere:June 19 on Hulu

Creators:Isaac Aptaker, Elizabeth Berger

Cast:Michael Cimino, Ana Ortiz, James Martinez, Isabella Ferreira, Mateo Fernandez, Rachel Naomi Hilson, Bebe Wood, George Sear, Anthony Turpel, Mason Gooding

Didja seeLove, Simon? I loved the 2018 coming-of-age LGBTQ+ film, based on theBecky AlbertallinovelSimon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. Now, thankfully, we are getting more charming stories set in this lovely universe.Love, Victorpromising a spiritual TV spinoff that will keep examining what it means to be a teenager grappling with every facet of their identity.

Michael Ciminostars as Victor, a kid who just moved to a new high school with his parents (played byAna OrtizandJames Martinez). Inspired by the story of Simon (Nick Robinson, who returns to produce and narrate this series), Victor wants that story to springboard his own. Trouble is, he’s not sure what his story is, yet. And as he adjusts to all this newness, we watch him explore his burgeoning queerness, generational divides with his parents, and desire to just feel normal.

This show, originally developed for Disney+ before a late-period shuffle to Hulu, looks charming, cute, sensitive, and interested in examining some prickly truths thatLove, Simonmay have smoothed over. In a streaming market saturated with dark, gritty shows that promise to plunge the depths of our capacity for shittiness with hyper-stylized filmmaking to boot, it’s just nice to see a show interested in telling a simple, human story that just might help some teens who need it. -Gregory Lawrence
