‘Deadpool 2’: ‘John Wick’s David Leitch Set to Direct
After the recent departure of directorTim MillerfromDeadpool 2over creative differences with star/producerRyan Reynolds, Fox had to get to work finding a suitable replacement to take the helm for the sequel. A few weeks ago there were rumblings thatJohn Wickco-directorDavid Leitchcould be one of the candidates, and this week we got confirmation thatLeitch will in fact take over directing dutiesforDeadpool 2. Leitch reportedly met with Reynolds in New York and got the offer soon after, beating out the likes ofRupert Sanders(Snow White and the Huntsman),Drew Goddard(The Cabin in the Woods), andMagnus Martens(Banshee).
Leitch sounds like a great fit forDeadpool 2, and if you sawJohn Wickyou know we will get some fantastic action on top of everything else we now know to expect from the title character. But apparently Leitch is taking over the R-rated superhero sequel and not the entire direction of the franchise, with reports also stating that Fox is already looking for a separate filmmaker to directDeadpool 3. This sounds like a nice move in keeping the vision for these sequels fresh, but it’ll be interesting to see if the studio sticks to that plan ifDeadpool 2greatly overperforms the first film.

‘Green Hornet’: Paramount Prepares Reboot with Gavin O’Connor Directing
You probably think that every big superhero movie has to come either from a DC or a Marvel character, and there are reasons to believe that. But the superhero genre might have to make room for more players with the news that aGreen Hornetreboot is comingour way with a director already in place. According to reports, Paramount is currently preparing aGreen Hornetreboot withThe AccountantandWarriordirectorGavin O’Connorset to take the helm and also produce.Sean O’Keefewill pen the script and will be working directly with O’Connor in the development of the film.
ThisGreen Hornetreboot will look to reinvent the character on a more serious note and serve as the launching point for a franchise. Superhero movies have more than proven to be profitable investments for studios when done correctly, so there’s no surprise that Paramount wants to get in the game. The draw to me in this story is the attachment of O’Connor, which paints a very promising picture for this reboot. The director is also a big fan of the property and his comments imply he will look to bring something different to the genre.

‘Inhumans’ TV Series In the Works at ABC
If you were disappointed about the unlikeliness of anInhumansmovie happening, this week brought good news if you still want to see these characters come to life. Marvel has officially put the ball in motion for the development of anInhumansTV seriesfor its ABC superhero lineup. The project comes from a team up of Marvel Television, Disney/ABC Television Group and IMAX, and the series will be filmed in its entirety on IMAX cameras. Additionally, the series premiere will have a two-week theatrical run at the beginning of 2017, and later shifting into ABC’S fall line-up. The team-up also marks a couple of first time occurrences, with this project being the first time a live-action series premieres in theaters before its network debut, and also the first time IMAX co-finances a TV series.
