The film also recently entered pre-production, meaning that sets are likely being built and schedules ironed out ahead of its official production start in less than six months. This leavesThe Batman Part IIwith well over a year between its production start date and release date —the film is set to be released on June 23, 2025, after several rounds of delays.Matt Reevesis returning to direct with a script he wrote withMattson Tomlin.
The Batmanset the world on fire with its release in 2022. The film had been delayed several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But it finally premiered to scores of 86% from critics and 87% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it was an instant hit. The film also grossed $772 million at the global box office against a $185 million budget, making a sequel a no-brainer forWarner Bros.The Batman Part IIfirst faced setbacks once James Gunn took over DCU and expressed a desire to have the universe be more streamlined, but after a few meetings, this didn’t stop him from allowing Reeves and Pattinson to continue their work in Elseworlds. Who Is Coming Back for ‘The Batman Part II’?
The only names confirmed to star inThe Batman Part IIare Robert Pattinson as the titular character,Colin Farrellas The Penguin,Jeffrey Wrightas Commissioner Gordon, andAndy Serkisas Alfred Pennyworth. Farrell recently starred inThe Batmanspin-off series,The Penguin, and he confirmed during press for the film that he would have a few scenes inThe Batmansequel. It remains unclear ifZoë Kravitzwill reprise her role as Selina Kyle in the film, or ifPaul Danowill be back as Riddler. The villain of the 2027Batmansequel is also being kept under wraps.
