Long Live Freddy Krueger
WhileA Nightmare on Elm Streetcame to4Kto honor its 40th anniversary last year, this set is the first time any of the sequels are coming to the premium physical format.Elm Streetisn’t the highest quality franchisewhere its sequels are concerned, but there are some cult gems besides the original. The biggest examples areA Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream WarriorsandNew Nightmare.
What made this franchise so lucrative in the ’80s wasRobert Englund’s Freddy. He was on everything from T-shirts to lunch boxes;Freddy Maniawas a very real thing. Especially considering other popular slashers likeFriday the 13th, we’re losing steam in the mid-’80s. Englund would go on to play Freddy in eight feature films and a few fun TV appearances. It was also just announced thatthe actor will be getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this Halloween.

It has been 15 long years since we last saw Freddy on the big screen in thepoorly received remake. During that time, the character appeared elsewhere in video games likeMortal Kombatand TV shows likeThe Goldbergs. WithHalloweenandTexas Chainsaw Massacrecoming back in recent years, it’s only a matter of time till fans see the next cinematic Freddy nightmare. For now, you can currently rent all the slasher villain’s past misadventures on major paid VOD platforms like Fandango at Home.
