It’s been three years sinceUnchartedswung into theaters and split the room — but in 2025, it’s climbing the charts and finding new life as a streaming phenomenon. Despite middling reviews from critics when it first debuted, theTom Holland-led blockbuster is now#4 on Prime Video’s Top 10in the U.S., behind onlyThe Pickup, War of the Worlds, andKingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
Directed byRuben Fleischer,Unchartedwas a major box office success in 2022, grossing$407 million worldwide. But for fans of the beloved PlayStation video game series, it was a mixed bag.Critics gave it a chilly41% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while fans came in much warmer, awarding it a whopping89% audience score. That disparity has only become more visible in the years since, with the film gaining something of a redemption arc thanks to streaming.

Unchartedhas now re-entered the cultural conversation this summer, grabbing the#5 spot on Prime Video’s Top 10 list for July 17before jumping higher in recent days. And this isn’t the first time the treasure-hunting duo of Nathan Drake and Sully has gone viral —earlier this year,Unchartedsurged on Netflix, reportedly clocking more than 10 million views shortly after landing on the platform.
What’s Next for the Uncharted Franchise?
While its streaming comeback may surprise some, for many fans the question is simple:Where’s the sequel?Despite its $407 million haul and renewed popularity,Uncharted 2remains stuck in development limbo. The film’s two stars, Holland andMark Wahlberg, have both voiced interest in returning, but with jam-packed schedules, nothing has officially been greenlit. Holland is currently between filmingChristopher Nolan’sThe OdysseyandSpider-Man: Brand New Day. Wahlberg, meanwhile, offered a small update last year in an interview withScreenRant:
“Actually, I just got a call today that they got the script in. I can’t grow a real beard and mustache, but they said, ‘Start growing your mustache. It’s gonna take awhile.’ I’d be interested to see what the story’s like, and where that adventure takes us. But I’m excited; I know audiences really loved the first one, so we’ll see."

So whileUncharted 2may still be far off, the appetite is clearly there — especially now that audiences are showing up in force to rediscover the first film.Unchartedis available now on Prime Video.
