After a mixed start to the season, this week’s episode ofCBS’sWatsondelivered a compelling hour, largely thanks to long-awaited insight into one of its most intriguing characters, Dr. Ingrid Derian (Eve Harlow). Episode 7, “Teeth Marks,” is amajor turning point forher journey, setting up a storyline that will have significant implications for Watson and his team. From the start of the series,Derian has been an enigmatic presence, balancing intelligence and skill with a deeply guarded, almost unsettling nature, seemingly uninterested in connecting with anyone around her.
Earlier in the season, hints of a dangerous past emerged, raising questions about whether she remained a threat. Episode 7 brings those concerns into sharper focuswhile also entangling her in a potentially dangerous webthat could have serious consequences for both her and Watson’s (Morris Chestnut) team. With secrets unraveling and alliances being tested, Derian’s next moves could change the course of the series in shocking and unexpected ways.

Ingrid Derian Has Been a Mysterious Character in Season 1 of ‘Watson’
Dr. Ingrid Derian is one of the most intriguing characters inWatsonfrom the very start. Eve Harlowhas an incredibly captivating screen presence, effortlessly shifting from charm to ruthless manipulation. Audiences saw this dynamic in her performance in Season 1 ofThe Night Agent, where she proved she excels at playing deeply unsettling characters. That’s what makes her casting as a member of Watson’s team so compelling. Derian is clearly a brilliant doctor, buther dark past keeps her at a distancefrom those around her. She’s been seen practicing lies in the mirror, dodging questions about her history, and, in a recent episode, snapping at Dr. Lubbock (Inga Schlingmann) for simply acknowledging her birthday.
Hints of Derian’s past have surfaced throughout the season, but Episode 2 provided the first major revelation. Dr. Isaac Niles (Hampton Fluker), an old acquaintance of Derian’s, became involved in Watson’s case. In the episode, it’s revealed that Derian was responsible for derailing his career to eliminate him from competition. By the end of the episode, he warns Dr. Morstan (Rochelle Aytes) thatDerian is an “incredible danger” to everyone. That warning now feels like it carries more weight after what is revealed at the end of “Teeth Marks” about Derian’s mysterious past.

Throughout Episode 7, Derian beginsreceiving cryptic text messages from an unknown sender— someone who seemingly knows intimate details about her past. After the case of the week wraps, she revisits the waterfront where she had previouslycelebrated her birthday alone. Waiting for her is Moriarty (Randall Park), finally revealing himself as her mysterious messenger. With a chilling demeanor and a disturbing gift in hand, he makes it clear that Derian’s secrets are no longer safe.
Moriarty Blackmailing Dr. Derian Changes the Game in ‘Watson’ Season 2
The real shock of the episode comeswhen Moriarty produces a decomposed finger bone, strongly implying that Derian was responsible for a body being dumped in the water – and now Moriarty has it. Whatever happened to that body, Moriarty knows far more than Derian wants him to, and it’s clear that he fully intends to use that knowledge against her. Given that we’ve already seen him manipulate Shinwell (Ritchie Coster),we know he isn’t bluffing. For a moment, we see Derian off her game and afraid, which is a rare thing so far this season. The tension in this brief but intense scene is palpable, thanks to the dynamic performances of Eve Harlow and Randall Park.
IfWatsoncontinues to draw from its source material, then there’s likely far more to this body in the water than meets the eye, and Derian’s connection to it may be deeper than we realize. Could this be what Niles was referring to? Or are there more literal skeletons that Derian has been trying to keep buried? Either way,Moriarty’s blackmail presents a unique challenge for Derian, who is already an isolating andsometimes unsympathetic character. Her moral compass has always been murky, but with someone like Moriarty pulling the strings, the lines between right and wrong blur even further. What will Moriarty ask her to do, and to what lengths will she go to bury the truth? Or has Moriarty met his match in the enigmatic Dr. Ingrid Derian?

“They Had Me When They Told Me the Mythology of It All”: ‘Watson’s Morris Chestnut on Who the Doctor Detective is Without Sherlock Holmes
Chestnut also talks about how important Moriarty will be to Watson’s story this season.
A conflicted, morally ambiguous character like Dr. Derian adds an unpredictable edge to the series, making her an even greater mystery. Will she resist Moriarty’s control,or will desperation push her further into darkness? With this crucial twist,Watsonhas set the stage for its most gripping arc yet, ensuring that audiences will be on the edge of their seats to see what happens next. CBS also just announced theseries' renewal for Season 2,so this story may have bigger ramifications beyond just the first season, putting the spotlight on Derian’s every move.
