You can always trust fans to come up with crazy theories about their favorite shows. In the new season ofAnd Just Like That, viewers realized that two major changes to Carrie Bradshaw’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) life might be signaling to something. The character once again moved apartments and went to a duplex in Gramercy Park, NY. She also started writing a historical fiction book — a first in her career. This was enough for fans to put two and two together, and they couldn’t help but wonder: is Carrie writingThe Gilded Age?

If that was the case, the crossover of the two series wouldn’t be impossible. Both shows hail from HBO, both are set in New York, and both of them featureCynthia Nixonin the main cast. So, it wouldn’t be surprising that Carrie used one of her best friendsas inspiration for one of the characters. Before this rumor started to take flight, however, Entertainment Weekly was able toask showrunnerMichael Patrick Kingpoint-blank if there was something going on behind the scenes to make some sort of crossover between both shows. The writer shot down the idea at once:

“No crazy crossover between ‘And Just Like That’ and ‘The Gilded Age.’ Carrie’s writing a book that takes place in the past because she doesn’t really understand what her life is like in the present. So it’s really just a writing contrivance to actually pay homage to the house she’s living in, which is very ‘Gilded Age,’ very turn of the century, and also fun for writing and to hear Carrie’s voice-over again, but in a new way. We always try to do something a little bit new every time.”

‘And Just Like That’ and ‘The Gilded Age’ Will Coexist This Summer

One of the flaws in the crossover theory is thatAnd Just Like That’s Miranda Hobbes andThe Gilded Age’s Ada Brook are wildly different characters who have no similarities apart from the face of Cynthia Nixon. While Miranda isfamously outspokenand firm with her decisions, Ada is a bit insecure, and her kindness evenmakes her seem a bit naiveat times. If the latter was a character in a book inspired by the former, it would suggest that Carrie doesn’t know the personality of her friend at all.

With or without a crossover, the new seasons ofAnd Just Like ThatandThe Gilded Agewill coexist for a while. TheSex and the Citysequel series will be halfway through its third seasonwhen the period drama returnsto HBO on June 22. If we see more of Carrie’s struggles with her new novel, however, chances are that these rumors will keep resurfacing.
