Ladies and gentlemen, glimpse the 1980sX-Menfun that might have been. You’ve probably heard all aboutX-Men: Apocalypse’s deleted mall scene by now. It featured prominently some of the film’s promos, it popped up on social media (and added fuel to the rumor fire that Taylor Swift would cameo as Dazzler), and both directorBryan Singerand producerSimon Kinbergspoke openly about itduring their rounds of press. Well now, with theApocalypseBlu-ray release just around the corner, the scene has finally hit the web.

And it’s fine.Apocalypsewas a standout dud in a summer full of studio misfires, so it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise that the mall scene isn’t exactly a revelation, but it is fun, and fun goes a long way. You know what else goes a long way? Personality, and it’s got more personality than the rest of the movie combined. For some reason,Apocalypsewas determined to treat its period setting as nothing more than window dressing (unlikeFirst ClassandDays of Future Past, which found ways to make the time period integral to the story), and the mall montage does a pretty good job of showing why that’s such a missed opportunity. Speaking of missed opportunities, Jubilee also gets to use her powers a bit.
